Big Walk players grouped together in the landscape

Official answer

Big Walk supports 2 to 12 players. The official FAQ also says there is no single-player mode and no random online matchmaking, so every campaign needs a host and invited players.

When the host starts a world, they choose a two-player, three-player or four-plus-player scale. That setting matters because objectives can scale with group size.

Choosing a group size

The best group size depends on what your group wants from the session. Smaller groups make communication clearer; bigger groups lean into the game's deliberate co-op chaos.

GroupBest fitPlanning note
2 playersFocused co-op and careful route documentationGood for wiki verification because responsibilities are clear.
3 playersA middle ground between puzzle coverage and manageable voice chatUseful when one player scouts while two solve.
4+ playersThe official larger-world setting and busier puzzle objectivesExpect more switches, targets or coordination tasks in some challenges.
6-12 playersSocial exploration, comedy and split scoutingAgree on regroup points and avoid losing the host's plan in the noise.

What scales and what does not

ScreenHype repeatedly notes that higher player counts can add more objective targets while keeping the same underlying puzzle logic. PC Gamer's launch coverage made the same broad point: some puzzles scale from two-player requirements up toward four-player versions.

This wiki should still verify each puzzle entry by player-count world. A route confirmed in a two-player session should not automatically be labeled universal.

Hosting and LFG consequences

The host owns the save, so a returning group should have the same host start the next session. Players outside the same platform friends list can use a join code generated when the host starts the session.

Because there is no public matchmaking, LFG posts and friend groups matter more than in a drop-in co-op game. Community links should be treated carefully: remove private IDs from summaries and label unofficial Discord servers as unofficial.
